MYSTERY DOG ILLNESS

We wanted to take a moment to address recent concerns about a new canine respiratory disease circulating around.  According to our Washington State Veterinarian, Atypical Canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) has been reported in our state with two confirmed cases. One of the confirmed cases is in Snohomish county. Although this new respiratory disease has not been observed in our clinic, we strongly encourage you to be vigilant and watch for any sudden onset of symptoms in your pets. Common signs to be aware of include: coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, nasal discharge, and lethargy. Should you notice any of these symptoms in your dogs, 🐕 we ask that you reach out to us immediately to schedule an appointment for a thorough evaluation.

In addition, please take the following precautions with your dogs:

-Make sure your dogs are fully vaccinated and booster them annually for canine respiratory diseases.

-Keep away from congregations of dogs. This is a time to avoid dog parks, doggie daycare and boarding facilities if possible.

-Stay away from sick dogs and dogs with unknown travel or vaccination history.

It appears this new current illness of concern has an excellent recovery rate with very few canine deaths reported, and there is no indication it is a public health risk that might infect people.

Our team is keeping a close eye on the situation and is staying informed about any developments related to this new respiratory disease. We will continue to follow the guidance and recommendations provided by reputable veterinary health organizations and experts. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.
